Kurt Walrath

Working alone in my studio in upstate New York, I create glass vessels with a graphic pattern composed from individual glass elements known as canes and murrine. Complex designs are composed from hundreds of cold pieces melted together to form a bubble, then blown and sculpted into vessels.I am inspired by patterns found in nature as well as historical examples of glass and ceramic forms. My work is also influenced by my former career as a pastry chef.
