I love working with hand tools, I am obsessed with balance and precision. My desire is to create modest and natural objects pleasing to the eye like I always imagined “Ikebana”; organic simplicity and lines of natural edges, carving, sculpting, inlays and the combination of other elements such as crude stone, fossils, metal, copper, mother pearl. I’m fascinated and inspired by the incredible complexity in burl wood as well as how it feels, looks and smells. Working with irregularities and flaws in wood allows me to see the way we interact with objects in our daily lives. I apply many techniques before a new piece is created; starting with a rough model carved by hand, then shaping the wood with a lathe and finishing my process with a natural oil.
