I categorize my Artwork as “3-dimensional abstract color-field optics.” Educated in the New York area in the 60’s and 70’s, I was influenced by such abstract expressionists as Mark Rothko, Josef Albers, Ellsworth Kelly, and Kenneth Noland, to name a few. I also hold an interest in the “Op Art” movement of that era. My work at that time consisted of large hard edge color field paintings in acrylic. 35 years and a teaching career later, I have resumed where I left off, this time infusing modern technology into the process. Utilizing a large format printer with archival inks, pre-conceived designs are created using imaging software such as Photoshop and Illustrator, then printed on either canvas or acid free board. The results can then be wrapped around 3-dimensional objects ( tubes, wood, boxes, etc. ), adhered to a formed matrix or pliable metal sheeting, or dissected with a mat cutter to produce various levels and effects. All my images are based on a “synectic” design theory, whereby aesthetic elements and design principles interact to create a specific energy and movement. The results are a unique blend of digital painting and sculpture.
