My images are often about memory, the passage of time, and the interaction between humankind and nature. I often photograph my subjects in the subdued light of overcast days, or at dusk or dawn. Such conditions encourage the use of prolonged exposures, thus capturing a glimpse of time’s passage. It is my hope these images not only reveal a sense of nature’s grace, but that they capture the delicate interplay between subject, environment, and quality of light.Technical InformationMy primary cameras are a Hasselbad 203fe and a Sinar view camera. I photograph my images on black and white film which I develop by hand. Negatives are then scanned to create a master negative which I print utilizing traditional photographic methods onto silver gelatin paper. I then custom-tone each print utilizing split-toning techniques and multiple toning baths, including thiocarbamide, selenium and gold toners. The resulting prints are warmer than a traditional black and white photograph and can include, black, brown, and salmon. Finally, finished prints are mounted using achival mounting tissue on Artcare boards. Great care is taken throughout the printing process to maintain the highest archival standards.
