My artwork is created by using layers of
colored pencil over a watercolor wash on
brown colored museum board. This allows
me to start my values in mid range and work
towards both light and dark. The brown
paper helps me achieve rich, but muted,
colors.
I began my art training in second grade in a one room school house in Kirksville, Missouri. I attended high school in St. Louis, Missouri and after time in the navy, I ended up at the Kansas City Art Institute.
My subject matter is totally from my imagination, but is inspired from real life.
The fantasy world I paint began with two house dragons I call draglings and
over the years I have created a whole world around them. Their world is based
on my childhood on my grandparent’s farm, where my grandfather would smoke a pipe and tell us stories by the fire. From a child’s point of view, it was an ideal world, full of adventure.
My reproductions are produced by the giclee digital printing process and offset printing process on archival papers and canvas with lightfast inks.
