Michael Barnes

I use pocelain and/or stoneware to explore the imaginary face and figure. The pieces are multicultural and ambidextrous in appearance with a subtle, pensive expression. I thrive in the technique and coupling it with an incessant imagination. Imagery, texture, form, and color are all pulled from science, music, nature, dreams, existence, and applied to human forms I create. Each piece develops a mind of its own. I pursue a soft burnished stone texture of the porcelain pieces and a coarse, metamorphic finish on my mixed clay work. The vertical pieces are often interactive. Most of the work can be displayed on a stand or the wall. This reflects a respect for living life with options.
