Don McWhorter

My life long need to be outdoors and my fascination with rediscovered ancient cultures and architecture have inspired these pieces. Wheelthrown and altered forms, unglazed, represent the rugged remnants of the structures of a forgotten creative people. Though weathered and worn from centuries of neglect, they still have beauty and strength of form and alluring endurance. Recent summers of hiking and exploring the wide open spaces of the American West and deep wood forests with meandering streams and hidden lakes are my related energies behind the surface designs. Gentle movements of the long flowing vegetation in the currents of the streams or lying on a forest bed of moss as leaves fall around are my resources of inspiration.
