A base of colored primer is applied to the painting surface to establish the color field before beginning my work with pastels. I draw with various sizes of oil pastels layering color and blending on the canvas surface. The drawing begins with my first mark, line or swirl. The process continues changing colors and styles of lines. If there is an area of color that I am unhappy with it is scraped off and fresh pigment is applied. The process of layering pigment on pigment continues until I am satisfied with the visual image that has emerged.
