Using plein air paintings, sketches and my photographs as reference, I begin my batiks with a rough pencil sketch and I wax and dye the cloth between 30 to 50 times. When complete, I then add encaustic to enhance the overall composition, texture and color. When desired, I will embed paper, string, plastic and other materials in the encaustic to complete the overall effect. This is the accumulation of thirty-five years of continuous work at my art. My award winning work has been featured in several art magazines and books. I am also the author/illustrator of three children’s books, one of which is also an award winner.
