I use traditional off hand glassblowing techniques such to create vessels out of molten glass. My focus for over 15 years in the studio has been to discover how colors interact when layered to form textures, patterns, shadows, and “bonus colors” that one might also see in the natural world, particularly the Pacific Northwest. Landscapes, rivers capes, and patterns that remind us of “place” are found frozen in form. Joing two pieces together has been a favorite technique, the incalmo technique, offering a quiet color horizon to the landscape below. Sandblasting and cold working add textures and luminence only found with glass. Each piece is one of a kind; shaped with wet newspaper in my hand and no molds.
