I was raised in the art and craft of sandal making by a single father who started handmaking leather sandals in 1971. Everything I know about leather craft and sandal making, I learned from him. My earliest memories are of art shows and helping out in the shop, starting with simple task and then learning each step of the process through my teens into adulthood. For thirty-four years my father and I made over 65,000 pairs of sandals and traveled the country doing countless art shows, fitting sandals to the greatest people you could ever meet. Unfortunately I lost my father in 2023. He traveled the country for over 51 years, meeting new people, making them laugh, and selling most of them sandals too, a tremendous life. I have a daughter and she has been raised in the art and craft of sandal making taught by myself and her Grandad, She now helps me in our sandal shop. Our sandals are made the old world way, one at a time. Using a few old world machines several antique hand tools. We use the highest quality American made cowhide leather, crepe rubber sole, arch support, and a compacting foam innersole which, takes your footprint in a few days of wear. The straps are one continuous piece of leather and fully adjustable to your foot. The leather, rubber soles, and everything the sandals are made of are cut and put together by us. We replace the straps for free and resole our sandals for a fee. Making each pair by hand is a slow process, however, it renders and excellent product. The Piper Sandal Co. is a small fifty year old family business making everything ourselves and selling everything ourselves while continuing to honor my father’s legacy by producing the best quality products and giving the friendliest, most sincere customer service.
