Jennifer Ivory
I’m Jennifer Ivory, paper sculpture artist. My home base is Corvallis, Oregon from which I travel all over the country showing my 3D paper artwork at outdoor art festivals. In addition to making a living my goal is to increase appreciation and more conservation of real insects. I try to inspire this appreciation by showcasing the amazing beauty of insects. Paper, film, illustration ink & acrylic paint are my primary materials but I’ll use anything that will add to the realism & interest including wood, canvas & metal.
Each individual piece is drawn, painted, cut, shaped and sealed. Depending on the piece there are 12 to 17 steps from start to finish. I frequently group the pieces together to create much larger compositions. Often when people see my insects for the first time they believe they’re real which is a source of great satisfaction to me.
I have been making my paper insect art since 1991 and exhibiting/selling my work since 2004. I never get tired of hearing the surprise in peoples’ voices and seeing the smiles on their faces when they first see my paper bugs. Often memories are triggered and a story ensues! I sincerely hope my artwork inspires people to appreciate our insect neighbors…we are, after all, quite dependent upon them. Enjoy!
