Since 1971, I have been making sandals by hand. It began in Cocoa, Florida, but my sandal making settled in Texas, thirty years ago. My home is now San Antonio, and my garage is the shop. Being self-taught, I have passed the craft onto my son Jon, as he grew up and helped me in the shop.
Our products are made the old world way…One at a time. Using a few old machines and several old hand tools, a little over 53,000 pairs of sandals have been made through these forty-one years of work. We use the highest quality cowhide leather, crepe rubber sole, arch support and a compacting foam innersole which, in just ten days of wear takes your footprint. The straps are one continuous piece of leather and fully adjustable to your foot.
The leather, the rubber soles, everything our saldals are made of are cut and put together by us. Making each pair by hand is a slow process, however it renders an excellent product. We also repair the saldals, through the mail, when the wear. The Piper Sandal Company is a family business, and is just the two of us. Throughout the year we sell at majot art shows across America, through the mail, over the phone and on the World Wide Web. We do not sell to stores. We live a happy life making peoples’ feet happy.
