Cali Hobgood-Lemme
I am a photographer from Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The pieces that I exhibit are hand-colored black and white photographs. The techniques I use shooting, processing and printing the black and white negative yield a high contrast print that I paint with high quality artist’ oils, using techniques that vary from brushwork to applying paint with cotton swabs. All of my photographic work is done by my hand, using standard silver processes in a traditional darkroom. Each piece is matted using 100% rag board and framed under plexiglass in fine hardwood museum-quality frames. These signed and numbered photographs are produced in numbered editions of up to five hundred. Unframed pieces are also available for sale.
I studied photography at the University of Illinois and continue to live in Urbana with my husband and son. I’ve been in business as an art photographer since 1986. 2005 is my thirteenth year exhibiting hand-colored black and white photographs. I’ve been the recipient of several grants and private commissions. I also specialize in concept commission work for arts agencies and art brokers. My work is displayed in galleries, shops, museums and juried and invitational art festivals across the country.
My pieces can have a lifespan of generations if displayed under normal conditions. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat. My museum-moulding frames are joined at the corners with glue and need to be handled with care. Be sure to use good hanging hardware. Enjoy!
