My current work is midcentury Pop with a touch of refined folk art. I create large format linocuts, also referred to as block prints). I hand carve art grade linoleum with sharp chisels and gouges, then ink the plate with a brayer (rubber roller) and press the plate face down, directly onto a wooden panel. I roll my 400 lb. lawn roller floor press back and forth then peel the linoleum off the panel. The smaller plates are hand burnished and surface details are later painted by hand. I love the tactile nature (and smell!) of linoleum and the way the tools cut, slice and glide through the surface. The movement of sharp chisels feeds my need for craft. Hand pulling the print from the panel and seeing the result is like opening a wrapped gift- every single time. All of my linocuts on wood are monoprints in oil and acrylic. I use the same plate but I am always changing the inking, painting, and background. Each piece is hand carved, inked and painted with several layers. All are original, signed works of art. I have been making a living selling artwork through art fairs, galleries and corporate art reps since I was 15 years old. For the last 36 years, I have been fortunate to do what I love and be paid for it. Before I discovered my true love of printmaking, I created jewelry, fused glass, Metal Quilts and mirrors. Yet art- like life, evolves. I’m now on my third body of work and consistently exhibiting at the top 10 shows in the country. I often think- “where has printmaking been my whole life?!” And I am lucky to have found that printmaking suits me. Thank you for supporting independent artists.
