I USE FINE HARDWOODS, LEATHER, STONES, METALS, DYES, STAINS AND PAINTS IN MAKING MY BOWLS. AFTER WORKING OUT PROPORTIONS & PROFILE ON PAPER, A BOWL IS TURNED ON A LATHE AS ONE PIECE OR AS SEVERAL PIECES TO BE SUBSEQUENTLY JOINED. JOINING TWO OR MORE PIECES WITH MANY FINE METAL RODS WHICH ARE THEN WOVEN WITH LEATHER CORD IS A TECHNIQUE I HAVE DEVELOPED TO ALLOW MANY DEEP AND UNUSUAL BOWL FORMS WITHOUT REQUIRING VERY THICK PIECES OF HARDWOOD. UNIQUE DESIGNS ARE CREATED ON EACH PIECE. SOME UTILIZE MY VISION OF DESIGN ELEMENTS WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN 10 CENTURY OLD ANASAZI INDIAN POTTERY. EXTREMELY FINE, HARD-EDGE PAINTINGS IN ACRYLICS CHARACTERIZE MOST OF MY WORK. ALL WOOD SURFACES ARE FINISHED WITH MANY LAYERS OF VARNISH TO INSURE DURABILITY AND COLOR FASTNESS. I AM SELF TAUGHT AND WORK ALONE IN CREATING MY “BOWL ART”. IT IS A SOURCE OF NON-ENDING JOY TO ME.
