Terrell Powell

I create mixed media works on canvas, wood and metal with oil and acrylic paint. I choose to work with a variety of material in each piece of art I produce. I will usually begin with a canvas or sheet or wood and apply a layer of concrete or stucco ground for texture apparent in the finished piece. I then apply a base coat of paint to cover the texture and begin painting until the work is completed. I also work on metal with the same materials. I utilize an assistant to cut out my designs to my specifications. Occasionally I use an assistant to prime the metal pieces before I paint them. Each piece has been painted and finished by the artist. I strive to convey a depth of emotion and/or tragedy apparent in every day life through a visual vocabulary indicative of my experience.
