Sylvia Pixley creates original traditional wood engravings which are relief prints. A reversed design is carved into end grain maple wood, using sized engraving tools, oil based ink is applied to the surface with a brayer, quality paper is laid on top, and the ink is transferred from the block to the paper by running through a simple roller proof press. Some original prints are then hand painted with transparent water colors. Most of the images are naturalistic, derived from sketches and photos taken from the wonderful world God has given us to enjoy. Sylvia does all the art work, cuts the mats, and inserts the art into premade metal frames. Her husband, Allen, is the transportation director, booth engineer, sales assistant, and administrator in charge of scheduling and lodging.
