Stephen Sebastian – Printmaking
As a printmaker I use a variety of etching techniques to craft my copper etching plates. The most frequently used techniques include aquatinting, mezzotint, white ground, dry point, and hard ground. Another recent technique I now often use is that of drawing and washing pigment on grained glass or wet media Mylar that I expose to a copper hydro-coat plate for my starting image. From this initial etch I use traditional etching techniques to finish crafting my intaglio plate(s). For color I use double intaglio techniques as well as multiple plates. On occasion I will add additional hand tinting with watercolor or pigmented inks.
