So many times photographers talk about the quality of light, the presentation of a vision or some other spiritual interpretation surrounding their photography and reason for doing it. Which can all be legitimate and profound, for me it is much simpler, I have no choice. Photography is something that I have to do, it chose me and it has been a labor of love ever since. That’s how I approach my photography, as a love affair with life, with a need as strong as breathing. I don’t always plan what I’m going to shoot. I merely let my mind explore areas of interest and the images seem to choose me. I use the camera to capture that fraction of a second that exists between the real and surreal at the border of space and time. Being able to show another world view, all be it an alternative one to societies preconceived ideal, is as close as I can come to a reason for what I do. The presentation of that image is the only part of the love affair with photography that I can truly share though. However, in order for my work to make a statement each person must give something of themselves to the interpretation. So it’s here that when viewing an image, if a person is transported to that alternative reality or can feel some emotion, then for that one instant, I’ve shared some small part of myself and the work as I see it.Like Athena born from Zeus’s head, my photography represents a concept that sprang from my imagination. My images are derived from a single negative that has had one exposure; there are no darkroom tricks, multiple exposures or digital manipulation. Its is photography in its purest form, with a little twist.
