Through my work I attempt to create an essence of peace in the world in which we live. My goal is to reinterpret a moment in time through the filter of my perception, creating an emotional stimulus to be shared in correlation with others. It is an essentially simplistic vision of the harmony between the external sensory world, and internal subjective perception. My hope is to share the sublime connectivity between the worlds’ vastly different landscapes, creating sensations through consistencies in design and contrast.
Each plate is of film is exposed through the zone system of aperture placement. In other words, the light meter acts as a paintbrush, but instead of spreading pigment it manipulates light. Shooting in large formats such 4 x 5 and 2 x 2 enhances this process, allowing complete control of each sheet of film exposed, mush like a painter has complete control of the canvas. The end product is not simply a visual representation of reality, but my pre-visualized conception thereof, presented through silver gelatin fiber selenium toned prints, produced in limited series and archived to museum standards.
Originally from the metro Detroit are, I received an Associates Degree in Photography Technology from Lansing Community College in 2002, with a concentration in large format Photography and silver printing. I am currently operating a studio out of Chicago, Illinois, and presenting my work in shows and galleries throughout the Midwest.
