The world in which we live never ceases to amaze me. The texture of a simple stone can capture my attention as easily as dramatic landscape. It is difficult to describe the delight I take in discovering a beautiful detail in an object that goes largely unnoticed by most people. Sometimes a greater understanding of the whole can be gained by close examination of it’s parts. With that in mind, I have attempted to recreate this feeling of discovery in my work.
My drawings begin with very small scribbles using an extremely fine point technical pen. This scribbling is then built up, layer upon layer, until form, contour, and depth appear. The intent of this is to create a piece that is as interesting when viewed mere inches away as it is from across the room. It is hoped that each image will draw the viewer in for a closer look and that the closer look will provide a greater understanding of the image.
