I make composite photo-montages in a pop art style by using discarded media, my old photographs and artwork in a “re-imagined way. I work with open source software and a graphics tablet; I combine layers of photos, illustrations, text, color and texture. Each piece is pasted and painted together with a computer stylus, mouse, and touch screen allowing me to work back into the original source materials to create a totally new composition. The challenge is to digitally create “artwork” using ever changing technology and software, while honoring the history and narrative of pop art. Each piece is hand framed in wood salvage purchased from local building sites (headed to the landfill), refinished and painted. Instead of glass, I mix and pour a non petroleum, bio based, resin. I then manipulate the resin to look like old lead glass (a technique used in home restoration). My definitive goal is to avoid using “new” resources while creating original artwork
