Rone Prinz
Rone Prinz has been creating jewelry for over 19 years. While in a Japanese papermaking class she accidentally tore one of her sculptures & it became a pair of earrings. From that day forward she has been exploring different materials, from rusted bedsprings to Opals. Hopefully evolving, but always challenging herself to create something new & different. As her life unfolds so do her ideas & values.
Fabricating and carving, constructing, casting reticulating and engraving are some of the techniques used by Rone to help achieve a finished piece; primarily using silver, with 18kt gold accents, various gemstones and hardwoods. Most of the pieces also have metalwork and gems on the reverse side. Some of the work is displayed in one-of-a-kind wooden shadow boxes that are made for each piece.
“My current work is a collection of jewelry using my wood & antler carvings. I love combining the simple lines of these precious woods with the richness of gold, silver and gems. I find such joy in the simplicity of natural shapes, preferring to work without putting too many limits on myself, allowing the alchemy of art to evolve in its own way. What has evolved recently seems to be pears & cherries, both very sensual shapes. The more I carve these pieces the more they are turning into the human form. The chair necklaces were originally intended to host the carvings but they are evolving into their own dialog including sprouting twigs & leaves, sort of going back to their roots.”
Asked what inspires her, she said “At the risk of sounding giddy, it is life itself, especially as it is expressed in laughter, love and change. I find Nature to be one of my biggest Muses and have cast twigs from my birch trees to combine them in Zen-like setting with various gems and other discovered elements.”
Rone lives in Woodland Hills, California with Brad, her daughter & their dog Buster, where she works out of her studio. Being a Gypsy at heart, she travels frequently to various juried art shows around the country. Trying to go to new places, “I have to try a least everywhere once.” Whenever possible she travels abroad, having visited and lived Europe, the Middle East & Asia. “Life is such a gift, why not enjoy it!!!”
