Rodgers Naylor
ART EDUCATION:Minneapolis College of Art and DesignThe Atelier (Minneapolis. Formerly Atelier Lack)Art Students League of Denver. MEDIUM: Oil on canvasSUBJECT MATTER:Rural/Mediterranean LandscapesWestern LandscapesUrban LandscapesHarbors, Boats and water-reflectionsAlthough Rodgers’ chosen home (Colorado) is one of the most beautiful places on earth, he is by nature restless, so he gathers inspiration both close to home and in his very distant travels.DESCRIPTION:Rodgers works in an “alla prima” manner, usually beginning with a warm-tone underpainting and completing a painting in one session when possible. This method, since it involves painting directly into wet paint, allows great flexibility in mixing colors and attaining soft edges, and fosters a fresh, spontaneous approach to painting. Rodgers takes a strong interest in the effects of light/shadow and warm/cool colors, and is intrigued by the interplay between the landscape and its human inhabitants. He paints both in the studio and en plein air.SELECTED RECENT AWARDS:Best of Show, Paint Evergreen, Colorado 2006Jurors Award, Evergreen Artists Association 2007Merit Award, Art at the Glen, Glenview, Illinois 2008
