I am engaged in producing work, which explores the use of traditional shapes as seen as part of a continuum. My hope is that the viewer will perceive something new with each exposure. In order to achieve this effect, I work with extremely rare woods from around the world. The raw material is shaped on a lathe. Then it is hollowed out to an exacting wall thinness of 3/16ths of an inch. Intricate rim details, carving, and other approaches are used in order to transform the raw material – wood into something entirely different.
