Rey D’Alfonso

During my painting, I call upon an arsenal of hand made tools & textures that I have created out of tempered metals to gouge the Baltic Birch wood. I then saturate the surfaces with pure pigments, oils & waxes, engraving with hand made tools. In these works I reference the 19th century Cuban poet Jose Marti, whose forced exile gave voice to the experience of immigrants for generations to come.
