Rachel Dory

A story through every door… My drawings invite the viewer to step inside, go back in time and revisit memories from long ago. My work evokes emotion in the viewer, and opens a window for each person to revisit their own experiences. These are all real places that I visit and photograph; I save the GPS location of each so it can be viewed on Google Earth. I work in large scale with pastel on birch panels. I use bold strokes, colors and many layers to achieve rich, detailed renderings. Acrylic medium encases and seals each drawing, which lends a matte surface that adds depth and protects the piece so no glass is necessary. This helps the visitor forget they are looking at a drawing and transports them through time, so they can not only see the places in their memory but smell and hear them, too. Hearing these stories is a powerful experience, and I am filled with gratitude every time a visitor shares their memories with me upon seeing my artwork.
