I start my sculptures by finding the right piece of unique wood that will compliment my subject matter. Sometimes I will use two different species of woods to create interest. Depending on my vision for the sculpture, I may apply paint to part of the sculpture and leave part natural wood to interest the viewer and create depth in the carving. I sometimes chip carve part of the sculpture and sand part as smooth as silk encouraging the viewer to touch . I take everyday objects and add items that would not normally coexist with them to create interest and dialog with the viewer.
