Patsy Lindamood
LindamoodÕs compulsion to draw is about capturing the visual beauty she sees in the world around her. She is drawn to the plethora of mathematically based patterns found in nature, such a spots on a jaguar or the feathers of pelican. Streetscapes abound in lines and shapes. And, rodeo scenes abound with all manner of shapes, patterns and the drama of the test of wills between man and animal. A well-established pastel artist, Patsy Lindamood knows how to create works of art which burst with color and vibrancy. But a couple of years ago, working in this classical dry medium began to feel constraining to her, particularly since pastel work must be framed, and under glass, to protect the delicate medium. Familiar with a different kind of pastel, water soluble wax pastel, Lindamood began to experiment with drawing in this medium on the same Ampersand Pastelbord she uses for her soft pastel work. Finding that she could create work with similarly bold colors and a broad range of textures, she has focused on producing works with this medium during the last year or so. Each new work is an opportunity to experiment with new ways to apply the medium and to manipulate the medium once applied to the substrate. She also experiments with different substrates, exploring the possibilities. Claybord as a substrate allows for exceptionally smooth applications of the pastel, and generally allows for more brilliant color. Pastelbord as a substrate allows her to create a far broader range of textures with the pastel, from smooth to fur-like, to rock-like (with the addition of pastel medium to the surface of the Pastelbord.)
