Pascal Bouterin

Through three pictorial techniques, that of oil, charcoal, and pastels, I engage myself above all in a precise research of color, at times in fact, to the detriment of purely figurative details. The harmony in which I bathe the works is nothing more than a suggestion, my proposition of union with the imagination of the public. I endeavor to minimize specific features and choose carefully my use of details in order to lure viewers and draw them into the work. With regard to the theme, I privilege that of water. My sensitivity to marine landscapes, coastal scenes, and the correspondences between the movement of water and that of man provide me with an unending source of inspiration as well as a moment of escape. I undertake the task of infusing the painting with my memories in order to satisfy my desire to recreate my lived experiences and share them with my public. After having devoted many works to the scenes of streets, markets, café terraces, walks along avenues, and Togolese lagoons, I recently let myself be allured by the lines which arise from the urban landscape. I value the overall ambiance as well as the heights of a city. My attraction to the urban environment is an inspiration born from my many trips to New York.
