I use traditional off hand glassblowing techniques to create vessels out of molten glass. My focus for over 15 years in the studio has been to discover how colors interact with one another to form textures, patterns, shadow, and “bonus colors” if you will, that we might also see in the natural world, particularly the Pacific Northwest. Landscapes, riverscapes, and patterns that remind us of “place” are found frozen in form. Joining two pieces together has been a favorite technique of mine, the incalmo technique, offering a quiet horizon line to the landscape below. Sand blasting and cold working add texture and luminance only found with glass. Each piece is one of a kind shaped with wet newspaper in the palm of my hand.
