Millicent Tyler
Growing up surrounded by fabrics from my mother’s upholstery business, I fell in love with all of the patterns, textures and materials used in this business. In 2001, I began working with the twenty years’ worth of remnants my mother had accumulated. Over the years, I’ve incorporated other materials and methods such as tufting buttons, cording and welting, and decorative trims. Today most of the remnants are gone. However, I only buy small quantities of materials for the bags, making each a limited-edition piece. Recently I have begun laminating print fabrics in order to make them weather-resistant and lightweight.
Although the designs, shapes and materials change from season to season, the one constant is my love of fabric, pattern and texture. Incidentally, the name of my business comes from my first name–Millicent–which is also my mother’s name
