Cut and layered painted papers are assembled into images before being sewn together with colored thread by sewing machine. The painted image evolves steadily, piece by piece, taking on its’ form and direction by the addition of each individual piece of paper or paint. I work on many paintings simultaneously both small and large and often find portions of a painting migrating to another work in progress. Images are at once striking, of familiar, story-like figures inviting archetypal translations of a shared yet arcane narrative. Words and stories collected from the everyday poetry of form and color reassembled into imagery to evoke an original presence that lies just beyond the reach of the perceived environment. These collected fragments of the construction of memory, awareness and understanding reanimated in figurative lyricism.
