Michael Barnes

I use porcelain and/or stoneware clay to explore the imaginary face and figure. The pieces are multicultural and ambisexterous in appearance with a a subtle pensive expression. I thrive in extrapolating technique and coupling it with an incessant imagination. Imagery, texture, form, and color are all pulled from science, music, nature, dreams, existence and applied to human forms I create. Each piece develops a mind of its own. I pursue a soft, burnished stone texture on most of the porcelain pieces and a coarse, metamorphic finish on my mixed clay work. The vertical pieces are often interactive. Most of the work can be displayed on a stand or the wall. This reflects a respect for living life with options.
