I utilize a unique combination of steam, heat, and pressure to bend sustainably harvested American hardwoods into abstract and representational forms. Wood sculpture is normally a very subtractive process, beginning with a large piece of wood and carving away a lot of waste material to reveal the form. I’m at the opposite end of the spectrum, as I consider my technique to be an additive method. I begin with relatively small pieces of wood and create much larger forms through the bending process. Every piece is bent by hand without molds, so they are each truly one of a kind. I take great pleasure in transforming straight planks of lumber into sculptures that are full of life and movement.
