My current body of work involves both clay sculptures, and two-dimensional mixed media panels. I use a mid fire clay body that I finished with engobes and oxides. These wall hung panels are built up to a high relief texture using both textured wall papers and joint compound that is then painted with acrylics and compatible mediums. These panels serve as a backdrop, or scene for a hand sculpted ceramic figure or object that rests into a niche that is built in the panel. My work will typically visually carry the title or a small bit of prose on the piece most often in the form of a small printed clay tile. This integrates the piece and often reveals the initial idea behind it. My interest in human behavior, and a desire to keep a watchful eye on my own wandering mind is both the inspiration for the work itself and the pursuit of an artistic life.
