Ken Orton

I am an academic painter, painting in a classic oil painting technique onto a prepared canvas surface. My general concern and the thems of most of my work is rendering of light and its interaction with surfaces both natural and manmade. A more specific concern, in recent years, has been in exploring the limits to which an apparently photo real image can be developed into an expressionistic painting whilst retaining its photo real qualities. My subject matter is often that which most people would reject or dismiss as having little aestheitc value. I hope to breathe new life and shine ne light into the dark and lifeless subject to test the subjectivity of aesthetic values.
