Kellie North & Natalie North

When creating this new body of work, we knew we wanted to carry over our minimalistic roots while exploring themes addressing culture, communication, and uncertainty. Animals appear as guides, helping us navigate these complex human issues. Our palette is often times filled with white, having the same effect as the space between notes during a song, allowing respite for the eye and accenting the bright colors alongside it. We focus on a colorful underpainting to reappear in unexpected ways through a distressing and editing process using palette work, sanding, and etching in the paint. These past two years have shown how important art is in our lives. We really believe it is what has carried us all through. We were comforted and connected by art in all of its forms. We are so honored to be a part of the creative community and present this work that is born out of our shared experience. Studio Salt is a collaboration project by partners Natalie and Kellie North. They have been together for 12 years and have two boys; Ellis, 4 and River, 1. Their combined passion for art, history, and nature are what push them both to try to create fresh, honest, modern work.
