My photographs are mostly about color. Color is the first thing that stops me when I am walk-ing around looking for images. Subject matter, composition and quality of light are also important and will determine whether I take the photo of not. I do a lot of walking while I am on a photo trip, sometimes over ten miles a day. I have learned to trust my intuition. If a scene that I am viewing does not create a strong emotional impact, I move on.
I prefer small towns and villages. Ordinary objects and events composed in the viewfinder can turn into something extraordinary and beautiful.
I mostly use Fujichrome Velvia film with small and medium format cameras. Ninety nine percent of the time the camera is on a tripos. The small prints, which are approximately 2×3 inches, have been scanned from the original transparency and output with a Fujix Pictrography 3000 Printer. The larger prints are output to an Epson 7600 printer using Ultrachrome Inks.
I do most of my photography in foreign countries. The places that I have visited specifically for photography include Brazil, France, Greece, Guatemala, Italy, Malta, Mexico, Morocco, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain and Turkey. United States locations include New Orleans and Tucson.
