My roots as a sculptor inform my painting process fundamentally. Rather than trying to paint an illusion or replication of nature, I delve into the nature of the medium itself: liquid color.
Beginning with little to no plan, using instinct, obsession and personal color theory; I let the color/medium guide me. The work is complete when the surface feels alive, potent and dynamic.
I push the medium using a full array of acrylic additives to change the transparency, viscosity and blend-ability. Utilizing varying acrylic mediums to create surface textures/levies. I begin to add thinned out color to the point of the levy/meniscus breaking and overflowing. It is this precarious balance of color, viscosity and brushstroke; that I feel emotional expression and satisfaction.
