James Mosier

I have been an artist since 1981 when I began weaving baskets. Initially the baskets were of a more traditional shape using only natural materials. Over time the work evolved into more contemporary shapes using non-traditional materials. In 1992 I started using aluminum in the basketry, and also began to weave some wall sculptures. I use sheets of metal which are painted with acrylics and then cut into thin strips on a bunch shear. The frame works of each piece is constructed of wooden rings and arches with aluminum rods for the ribs. The strips of aluminum are then hand woven through these forms. I have exhibited in many major art festivals around the country. in addition I have been commissioned to weave several larger works for residential and commercial clients.
