Hooshang KHorasani

This series of work reflects a modern study of ancient Persia’s rugs — and soul — using original digital technology. Persian rugs have been prized through the centuries both because of their beauty and the knowledge that they are painstakingly handmade. No two are alike.

A close connection with nature can be noted in Persian rugs. Nature, in some form, is present in almost all the carpets, whether through small plants and flowers or delicate animals. Geometric designs and curvilinear forms are also seen. What’s more, elements of Persian rugs appear in their miniatures, and miniature elements in Persian rugs.

With this study, I pay tribute to this ancient art form: I design art that hints of ancient Persian carpets. I took original digital photos and manipulated them via the computer into the forms that you see here. And I hope that observing this art can transport viewers onto a magical carpet ride of wonder, both of human ingenuity and the universe.
