All of my work is hand fabricated from steel, stainless steel, and bronze using welding and fabricating techniques. All of the work on my art is done entirely by myself without the use of any casting processes. When I create my work, I start with general steel or bronze shapes (square bar, flat stock, pipe, sheet metal, etc.). These basic shapes become the foundation for my pieces. For example, in order to create a large sculpture, I start with ½ inch thick flat steel or bronze. The material is cut to different lengths, widths, and shapes using a plasma or oxygen/acetylene torch. Next I bend the different pieces using a large hydraulic press. I position and hold the material in the press by hand. By adjusting the angle and side of the material, I can create pieces that both spiral and have curves, which change direction. The various curved shapes are then welded together to create the sculpture. This stage involves removing and repositioning the different components to achieve the best result. When I am satisfied with the composition of the piece, I begin the finishing process. The finishes that I use include polishing with a sanding disc to a high shine finish, natural rust, specialty paints, and chemical patinas. The subjects of my work come from my imagination. I take the experiences of my life and identify the things that I find interesting and that I would like to communicate. I start with very rough basic shapes of steel and transform them into a finish work of art.I encourage you to ask any questions about my work or my sculpturing methods.
