Blown glass is the major material used in the execution of my artwork. Along with the traditional techniques of glass blowing, I also incorporate technical elements of hot glass sculpting and casting in my predominately blown forms. I use intense contemporary colors and bold patterns as a design element expressing my unique sense of style. This is created by layering many opaque and transparent colors separated by thin layers of clear, giving the color a depth and richness not seen in most blown forms.
I’m a glass minimalist. Since my designs are often ornate, this term is not descriptive of the work rather, it defines the process. Glassblowing is an ancient art form. The tools and techniques available to the modern glass worker vary little from those used by previous generations. Too many artists rely on traditional complicated techniques to define their work. The concept should be more important than the techniques that created them. The years devoted to learning the skills to blow glass is a life long commitment, finding the balance between design and process is the challenge.
