I fell in love with printmaking around 1988 when I began working with a master printmaker named Nellie Buel in Comfort, Texas. Printmaking was a perfect match for my background in drawing. I learned how to create etchings in the very traditional and classical method of dry point, aquatint and intaglio printing. After much experimentation, however, I now create etchings with solar plates made from my drawings, photos that have been altered and combinations of both.

I print all of my artwork, by hand, on my flatbed press. After a print has dried, I often hand color them. I also do monoprinting to make one of a kind prints, using my etchings, drawings and ephemera. I want my art to showcase the enduring strength of women, so I often depict cowgirls, pioneer women, suffragettes, and women aviators, as well as other images of women who exhibit a sense of “attitude” and humor.
