Curt Baldwin

I’m curious about waves and how they make light dance. I use old wooden boats and their reflections as models to study this. My works are generally oversized and minimal as to not dominate, yet complement surrounding spaces. My work is based on summer times on a small lake in Michigan. Here is where my favorite time passes and so I paint the pages of my story there. Water inherently narrates time and place through reflection but also clarifies the atmosphere through distortion. How windy, busy or calm the lake is at the moment. What activity or dress is best suited for the conditions. My work is meant to set the scene, the viewer’s job is to decide what happens there. But this depends on our capacity to see and the time we will take to read them.
