Flowers that I have grown, purchased, or found in the wild, are arranged to convey movement against a black fabric backdrop. In a dark studio, multiple exposures are taken using LED flashlights as the sole light source. With each exposure, light is projected from a different direction and intensity, illuminating only part of the flower. By lighting from all directions, colors, textures and shapes not observed in flat natural light are revealed. Complementary exposures are layered and then blended to produce the desired lighting effect. The images are then softened, resulting in some images that are more abstract while others are realistic. Final images are either infused onto aluminum by a lab at my direction or printed in house on metallic paper. It is often said that we look but we do not see. My hope is that those who view my work will see something familiar in a new way and appreciate the beauty around them.
