Having always enjoyed Texas History, I find that the photomontages are the perfect outlet to combine my desire to create art with my interest in quirky dives & places unique to certain locales.? Certain places exist in particular environments for a reason. Whether it’s economic, social or environmental, it’s these venues that define the city in a sort of mental pedestrian landscape. Over time, signs and landmarks are symbols that seem to primarily exist in your head, whether it’s to remind you of college pranks on Mt. Bonnell, eating an awesome burger at Griff’s or kicking back with an unbeatable margarita at Joe T. Garcia’s, signs will always serve to conjure up history–most often yours and on occasion someone else’s.
I’m Inspired by the things I see everyday. David Byrne once said that modern highways are the cathedrals of our times, if that’s the case then the signs and landmarks that embellish them would serve as steeples and stained glass windows.
