Egg tempera paint is an ancient process of hand making paint by mixing pure pigment powder with a blend of egg yolk and water, called the medium. I enjoy egg tempera because of its handling properties. Because of the egg yolk binding agent it dries in seconds, leaving crisp, delicate brush strokes that don’t build up and smear, like oil paint. It is perfect for the realistic illusions that I rely on to invite the viewer into my art.
